Now He’s A Communist

Remember this? Here’s what Gov. Palin had to say about Middle America at the Republican National Convention:

“We grow good people in our small towns, with honesty, sincerity and dignity. They are the ones who do some of the hardest work in America, who grow our food, run our factories and fight our wars. They love their country, in good times and bad, and they’re always proud of America.”

Here are some of those honest, sincere, dignified, salt-of-the-earth folks at a Palin rally:

A couple of things to note:

1. Palin’s convention quote is from Westbrook Pegler. Pegler was a right-wing loon, a man so out there that he was bumped from the journal of the John Birch Society for anti-semitism (you can’t make this stuff up). He openly wished for the assassination of FDR. He said this about Bobby Kennedy: “”Some white patriot of the Southern tier will spatter his spoonful of brains in public premises before the snow flies.” (again, can’t make this stuff up, but follow all the links if you think this could possibly be taken out of some sort of context that puts it in a better light!). And, perhaps most relevant to the matter at hand, he most certainly was NOT a small-town guy. This is a guy who spent his life in places like Chicago and Minneapolis, not East Overshoe or Wasilla.

2. Did you really think it was going to take that long before “Obama is a socialist” transformed into “Obama is a Communist?” Do you really think this is about Obama’s positions on taxes?? Or do you think this is more along the lines of “Obama is a Big Black Boogeyman,” and that “Arab,” “Muslim,” “Socialist,” “Communist,” “Terrorist,” etc., are all really interchangeable?

3. Are there a lot of Islamist Communists out there? Isn’t that an oxymoron? Aren’t Communists atheists? Didn’t Marx state that religion is the opium of the masses? Didn’t Islamic radicals refer to the Soviet Union as one of the two Great Satans? Didn’t bin Laden and his organization grow out of the conflict between religious Muslims and the Soviet Union in Afghanistan?

4. WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY do we NEED to keep paying lip service to this cockamamie idea that America’s made up of these little white small towns with little white good people in them, and that that’s where the REAL AMERICA is? IT’S NOT REAL, PEOPLE!
