The Minnesota Recount
November 17, 2008
“Republicans are also questioning the credibility of Minnesota’s Secretary of State Mark Ritchie, the man tasked with overseeing the recount. A background document distributed by national Republicans portrays Ritchie as a far-left, Democratic version of Katherine Harris, the former Republican secretary of state whose actions helped decide the 2000 presidential election. The document accuses Ritchie, who was elected in 2006 with the assistance of a progressive-led group designed to elected Democratic election administrators, of having connections to the controversial voter registration group ACORN and the Communist Party of America.”
You really can’t make this stuff up, can you? What’s with this Communist Party shit? It is 2008, right? Didn’t the Cold War end around 20 years ago? OK, here’s what to watch for: Mark Ritchie’s a terrorist. That’s right, I’m calling it now. I’ll give it another week max before some big shot Republican says that Mark Ritchie is either palling around with terrorists or is somehow personally linked to al Qaeda. AND is a Communist. He’s an al Qaeda Communist. This is the current level of seriousness in Republican Party. Call the other guy a Communist or a Marxist or a Terrorist. And Sarah Palin. And Drill Baby Drill.
And by the way, what’s up with the “Democratic version of Kathryn Harris” line? Shouldn’t that be a GOOD THING to the Republicans? Correct me if I’m wrong, but didn’t they sing her praises? Didn’t they elect her to Congress? Didn’t they run her as a candidate for Senate? I’m certain I didn’t imagine all of that. Now it’s bad to be compared to her. Is that an implicit admission of guilt in Florida in 2000? And what exactly makes this guy a “Kathryn Harris?” The fact that he’s a member of the same party as one of the two candidates and he’s overseeing the election? Correct me (again) if I’m wrong, but isn’t that the way it works in every state? Maybe we should change the way it works. And not just in the blue states. Just saying.
